LBO modeling sits at the technical end of finance work, and the gap between reading about it and being able to build one from scratch is significant.
Structure of the training
You work through three complete LBO models during the course, each with increasing complexity. The first uses a simplified capital structure to build intuition. The second introduces multiple debt tranches, PIK interest, and a proper debt schedule. The third is a full deal model based on a South African retail business case with real-world complications.
Returns mechanics and IRR drivers
A lot of the analytical value in LBO work comes from understanding which variables actually move IRR and equity multiple. Entry multiple, exit multiple, revenue growth, and leverage level each get stress-tested so you understand the model rather than just running it.
Management equity plans and option pool modeling are covered in the final section, which many training programs leave out entirely.
Simone du Preez, who transitioned from commercial banking to a PE associate role, said this course covered what she actually needed for her first deal process.
